|
| On
arrival
in Oslo, we provide you a dedicated transfer
to reach your hotel. The port town of Oslo is the capital of Norway Oslo
celebrated its 1000 year anniversary in the year 2000. Until 1814, it was
known as Christiania after
the Danish-Norwegian king. The city is beautifully situated at the head of Oslo
Fjord surrounded by forested ridges, and this very location gives Oslo
unexpected qualities for a national capital.
Start
the
day long Oslo tour which allows you to see all of Oslo’s main attractions at your own pace and
convenience, with the freedom to take a break from your tour at any time to
explore a sight further, or maybe go for lunch or shopping. Explore the
Royal
Palace, the

2: Departure to Bergen by train - Evening cruise starts
|
|

|
|
After
breakfast, take the train to the west coast of Norway
to reach Gateway to fjörd - Bergen. On the way do not
miss a moment of the spectacular 5 hour journey which
takes you through snow capped mountains, glaciers, waterfalls,
rivers and lakes. Nature is at it's best here.
On reaching Bergen,
spend some time to discover parallel rows of wooden buildings front the harbor at Bryggen
Wharf, the medieval waterfront district in Bergen, the
Fish Market and a short ride on floibanen funicular
train for a spectacular view of Bergen. Settle into
the gentle rhythm of life on board as the ship glides
along the unspoilt coast. Relax and enjoy the stunning
scenery. Sample the delicious cuisine for which Norway
is renowned in the comfortable but informal diningroom
or make new friends in the bar. Share experiences with
fellow passengers from the world over as well as meeting
local people travelling between ports, or simply wonder
at the views from the panorama lounge as we look forward
to the next port of call. Check in for the cruise
around 18:00 and depart 20:00 (summer) / 22:30 (winter)

Day
3: Florø
- Molde
|
|
A perfect start to our second day is an early
arrival at the enchanting Art Nouveau town of Ålesund,
which is situated across several islands at the entrance
to Geirangerfjord. On departures from Bergen between
15 April and 13 September the ship will sail into the
magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site of Geirangerfjord,
where tumbling waterfalls, rugged cliffs and majestic
mountains are mirrored in the deep still water. Here
we have the opportunity to join excursions ashore and
weave through hairpin bends to overlook one of the world’s
longest fjords. This is truly a mountain lover’s delight.

Day
4: Trondheim - The medieval city
|
|

|
|
Continuing north, the medieval
city of Trondheim is today’s highlight. Standing proud
against the natural backdrop, its colourful history
is reflected in handsome civic architecture. Optional
excursions include the medieval Nidaros Cathedral or
the enthrilling Ringve Music Museum. While we sleep
the ship plies its trade along the coast and enters
the land of the Midnight Sun.
|
|
Day
5: Bodø - Arctic
Circle
|
|
In the early hours we experience the
thrill of crossing the Arctic Circle as the voyage continues
to the modern town of Bodø, from where we can join a
optional Sea Eagle safari and witness the world’s strongest maelstrom
or “whirling stream” at Saltstraumen. The glorious Lofoten
Islands are where the day draws to a close with a stop
at the capital, Svolvær. The intriguing Magic Ice gallery
of “art below zero” is on the quayside and the stylish
little town is just a few minutes away.

Day
6:
|
|

|
|
A
relaxing morning at sea precedes our arrival inTromsø
- the capital of the Arctic- where the Midnight Sun
is visible from the end of May until the last week in
July. The simple interior of the Arctic Cathedral gives
prominence to a triangular stained-glass window filling
an entire wall. Take the optional excuriosn to the Polar Museum and the Polaria centre
to explore Arctic life over the centuries. These
are complemented
by modern shops and cafés just minutes from our cabins.

|
Day
7: Honningsvåg - North Cape
|
|
After an early call
at Hammerfest arrive in Honningsvåg, the largest
fishing village in Finnmark, and doorway to the wonders
of the spectacular North Cape, mainland Europe’s northernmost
point at 71º north. An optional excursion to the North
Cape is available all year round. North Cape is a cape
on the island of Magerøya in northern Norway, in the
municipality of Nordkapp. Its 307 m high, steep cliff
is often referred to as the northernmost point of Europe.

|
|
Day
8: Kirkenes - Cruise ends flight back to Oslo
|
|

|
|
The
vistas become more dramatic as the ship approaches the
finale of the northbound voyage here in the far reaches
of Europe. Benefiting from the warm currents of the
Gulf Stream, this region is rich in sea life, and the
coast is largely ice free in winter allowing ships access
to most harbours. Soon we reach Kirkenes, from where
the emotive border with Russia a few kilometres away
or the Sami communities of Northern Finland may be visited.
Here the ship bids farewell to passengers and take the
flight to reach Oslo. On arrival in Oslo, we transfer you to
hotel where you relax for the day.
|
|
Day
9: Departure from Oslo
|
|
After
breakfast spend time on your own. We provide you a dedicated
transfer to the airport
for your onward destination.
